Denmark to Support Việt Nam in Green Transition Efforts

HÀ NỘI, April 14, 2025 – Denmark is stepping up its commitment to assist Việt Nam in its efforts towards a green transition. This announcement came during a meeting between Michael Aastrup Jensen, the chairman of Denmark’s Parliament’s Foreign Policy Committee, and Bùi Thanh Sơn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Việt Nam. This interaction took place in Hà Nội as part of a working visit by the Danish delegation from March 3 to March 6. ### Strengthening Bilateral Relations

During the meeting, Jensen emphasized Denmark's willingness to support Việt Nam in achieving its environmental and sustainable development goals. He expressed that the delegation's visit aimed to explore potential cooperation opportunities between the two nations, thus enhancing the effectiveness of their bilateral relations.

Deputy PM Sơn acknowledged the invaluable support the Danish government and people have provided to Việt Nam on its development journey. He highlighted the importance of Denmark as a key partner in Việt Nam's foreign policy, referencing existing cooperation mechanisms that have been established over the years. These include the Strategic Partnership launched in 2011, the Comprehensive Partnership from 2013, and the recently formed Green Strategic Partnership in 2023, focusing on areas such as climate change, sustainable energy, and green growth.

Future Collaboration

Sơn urged Jensen and the Danish parliament to continue promoting bilateral activities, especially with the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Việt Nam and Denmark approaching in 2026. He also expressed hopes that Denmark would encourage other European Union parliaments to ratify the EU-Việt Nam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Both countries recognize substantial potential for collaboration in various sectors, especially given the trade benefits of the EU-Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA). Emerging fields such as green transition and digital transformation are also focal points for future partnership.

Denmark’s Role in Sustainable Development

Denmark is recognized as a global leader in the green transition and sustainable development. Sơn requested that Denmark continue to play an active role in supporting Việt Nam through policy development, sharing governance experiences, facilitating technology transfer, and providing human resource training.

Jensen reaffirmed Denmark’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with Việt Nam and emphasized the shared sustainable development goals between the two nations.

Cooperation on International Issues

Apart from discussing bilateral cooperation, the two officials addressed various foreign policy matters of mutual interest. They agreed to enhance collaboration in regional and international multilateral forums, including ASEAN-EU frameworks. Both Việt Nam and Denmark aim to tackle global challenges jointly and work towards ensuring peace, stability, and sustainable development in their respective regions.

The ongoing dialogue and the potential for future cooperation highlight the commitment of both countries to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. As Việt Nam continues to push towards a greener future, the partnership with Denmark serves as a significant step in achieving those ambitious goals.

Conclusion

As the working visit concludes, the collaborative spirit between Denmark and Việt Nam is set to deepen, paving the way for shared initiatives that could significantly impact both nations' commitments to sustainability and green transition.
