Origins and Dance Education

Brendås grew up in Oslo, Norway, where she was introduced to dance at a local school known for its open-minded approach. She tried different styles from an early age, seeing each one as a chance to explore a new way of self-expression. After finishing high school, she enrolled at Marymount Manhattan College in New York, drawn by its diverse performing arts program and the vibrant cultural landscape of the city. Brendås immersed herself in intensive courses that emphasized discipline, musicality, and adaptability.

During her college years, she also participated in workshops and performances that allowed her to appear in front of local audiences. She found these experiences transformative, pushing her to refine her artistry. Whether executing a high-energy hip-hop routine or a sensitive contemporary piece, she displayed an impressive ability to inhabit each style fully.

Performance Work and Choreographic Ventures

Brendås has collaborated with up-and-coming choreographers across a variety of genres. She joined a commercial dance team that blended hip-hop and pop, taking part in music videos and small-scale concerts. This exposure introduced her to the rigors of high-tempo choreography. At the same time, she contributed her talents to contemporary dance productions, often experimenting with improvisational passages that enabled her to express personal narratives through movement.

She also began testing her own choreographic skills, presenting short pieces in student showcases. Many recognized her skill at fusing fluid technique with striking visuals, such as patterned lighting or carefully designed costumes. Viewers observed that her dance segments told clear narratives, whether about personal growth, cultural identity, or environmental awareness.

Collaboration with Ingeborg Kolstad

One of Brendås’s most notable current projects is a duet with choreographer and fellow Norwegian artist, Ingeborg Kolstad. Titled “EKKO,” it draws on the concept of echoes to illustrate human connection and shared experiences. The dancers mirror each other’s motions, then break away to explore individual impulses before reuniting in synchronized gestures. This interplay captures the audience’s attention and paints a picture of unity and separation.

Brendås brings a vibrant energy to “EKKO.” She blends controlled lines with bursts of sharp dynamism, bridging the gap between classical technique and contemporary edginess. Her background in multiple dance styles adds layers to the piece, giving it a distinct character that resonates with audiences looking for something authentic yet modern.

Looking Ahead to TRUE NORTH
