Mykolas Alekna Sets New Men’s Discus World Record

Ramona, Oklahoma – April 14, 2025

Lithuanian athlete Mykolas Alekna made history on Sunday, becoming the first person to throw the discus over 75 meters, surpassing his own previous world record. Competing at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting in Ramona, Alekna launched the discus to an impressive distance of 75.56 meters, bettering his former mark by more than one meter.

Alekna's previous world record was set at the same venue last year, where he managed a throw of 74.35 meters. The Ramona facility has gained a reputation among elite throwers, attributed to its favorable wind conditions, which proved advantageous for Alekna once again.

In a stellar performance throughout the competition, Alekna opened with a remarkable throw of 74.89 meters, which exceeded his old record. He extended his lead in the fourth round with his historic throw, solidifying his status as a top contender in the field.

Australian competitor Matt Denny also showcased his talent during the event, achieving a throw of 74.78 meters, which surpassed Alekna’s earlier record but fell short of the historic 75-meter mark achieved by Alekna.

Alekna, who clinched a silver medal at the last Olympic Games, continues to impress the athletics world with his remarkable feats in discus throwing. This groundbreaking moment marks a new milestone in the sport, highlighting Alekna’s extraordinary skill and potential for future achievements.

As the athletics community celebrates this landmark achievement, all eyes will be on Alekna as he prepares for upcoming competitions and seeks to further enhance his already stellar career.
