Lithuania to Allocate €20 Million for Ammunition Support to Ukraine

Vilnius, Lithuania – April 11, 2025

Lithuania has announced plans to allocate an additional €20 million to assist Ukraine in purchasing ammunition. This commitment was confirmed by Defence Minister Dovilė Šakalienė, who emphasized that ammunition remains one of the most critically needed resources for Ukraine amid ongoing conflicts.

In statements reported by the Lithuanian news agency LRT and echoed by European Pravda, Šakalienė underscored the urgency of this support, urging allies to expedite their assistance to Ukraine. She expressed concern that the summer months ahead could present significant challenges for the Ukrainian defense effort, thereby necessitating a swift response from international partners.

This latest funding comes on the backdrop of Lithuania's consistent military support for Ukraine since the full-scale invasion by Russia began. In June 2024, Lithuania’s State Defence Council had established a policy to allocate at least 0.25% of the national GDP annually for military assistance to Ukraine. To date, Lithuania has provided approximately €800 million in military aid, with its long-term commitments exceeding €1.5 billion.

The new allocation is part of a larger pattern of international support for Ukraine's defense capabilities. Recently, German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius announced a military aid package that includes four IRIS-T air defense systems. Additionally, Norway has joined a coalition led by the UK and Latvia to provide drone support for Ukraine, further enhancing the military resources available to the besieged nation.

With these developments, Lithuania continues to position itself as a key supporter of Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression. As the conflict persists, the need for international cooperation and aid remains critical for Ukraine’s ongoing defense efforts.
