Travelers in West and South Iceland are advised to exercise caution today as yellow weather warnings have been issued due to expected strong winds and squalls. According to the Icelandic Meteorological Office, the warnings will take effect at different times, beginning in South Iceland at 2 PM. The alerts will then extend to Faxaflói at 3 PM, Breiðafjörður at 4 PM, and the Westfjords at 5 PM.
A representative from the Icelandic Road Administration reported that a strong southeasterly wind is anticipated to bring gusts of up to 40 meters per second in the southwest region. Fortunately, forecasts suggest that the most severe conditions will not last for an extended period.
Changing Weather Conditions
The day started with relatively mild weather, presenting light winds, frost, and occasional sunshine throughout much of the country. However, conditions are expected to deteriorate during the afternoon hours as snow, sleet, and later rain begin to move in from the southeast.
By this evening, temperatures are projected to increase to around 7°C. Looking ahead, tomorrow is predicted to see a southwesterly gale, with rain or sleet easing after midday. Easterly winds are likely to return later in the afternoon, which may bring additional precipitation, particularly to the southern regions. Yellow weather warnings are also anticipated for the Highlands and across North Iceland. Tomorrow's temperatures are expected to reach a high of 8°C, though the Westfjords may experience cooler conditions.
Travelers are encouraged to stay updated with the latest weather information and take necessary precautions while on the road during this period of adverse weather.
