Saab Signs Agreement with Latvia for RBS 70 NG Air Defence System
Linköping, Sweden - March 31, 2025 - Saab, the Swedish defence and security company, announced today that it has secured a significant order from the Latvian Ministry of Defence for its next-generation short-range ground-based air defence system, the RBS 70 NG. The order, valued at SEK 2.1 billion (approximately USD 230 million), falls under a broader framework agreement between Saab and the Latvian government. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2030. This contract includes the provision of RBS 70 NG firing units, missiles, and training devices. Görgen Johansson, head of Saab's Dynamics business area, commented on the development, stating, "Saab continues to support the Latvian National Armed Forces with a strong ground-based air defence capability which will significantly enhance its crucial ability to detect and engage aerial threats."
Features of RBS 70 NG
The RBS 70 NG system is designed to address a variety of aerial threats, including aircraft, drones, and missiles. One of the standout features of this system is its automatic target tracker, paired with a built-in night sight, which allows operators to track and engage targets effectively from distances of up to nine kilometers.
